About NWDRA
About the New Westminster Downtown Residents Association
The New Westminster Downtown Residents Association (NWDRA) was formed to represent the interests of residents living in the downtown area of New Westminster, between Royal Avenue and the Fraser River.
Our Mission
Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for downtown residents by:
- Advocating for residents’ interests with the City and other government agencies
- Building a sense of community among downtown residents
- Promoting safety, accessibility, and livability in the downtown area
- Encouraging responsible development that respects the heritage and character of our neighborhood
- Providing a forum for residents to express concerns and ideas
Our History
The NWDRA has been active since 1999, working to ensure that the voices of downtown residents are heard as New Westminster continues to grow and develop. Our members have been involved in numerous community initiatives and have provided valuable input on development proposals, transportation plans, and public amenity improvements.
Board of Directors
The NWDRA is led by a volunteer board of directors elected by our members at our Annual General Meeting.
Current board members include:
- Quentin Vandermerwe - President
- Roland Guasparini
- David Love
- John Koch-Schulte
Bylaws
The NWDRA operates according to a set of bylaws that outline our governance structure, membership rules, and operational procedures. These bylaws were last updated in 2021.
Join Us
We welcome all downtown residents to join the NWDRA. Membership is free for residents living in the downtown area. We meet monthly to discuss issues affecting our community and often host guest speakers from the City, developers, or community organizations.
